BRICS: New Development Bank

BRICS
BRICS is the acronym for an association of five major emerging national economies: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The grouping was originally known as "BRIC" before the inclusion of South Africa in 2010. It is typically rendered as "the BRIC countries" or alternatively as the "Big Four".

The BRICS members are all developing or newly industrialized countries, but they are distinguished by their large, fast-growing economies and significant influence on regional and global affairs; all five are G-20 members.

BRICS and Bangladesh
Some developing countries like Indonesia, Turkey, Argentina, Egypt, Iran, Nigeria and Syria have expressed an interest in joining BRICS. Bangladesh is also willing to join the newly-formed BRICS New Development Bank(NDB) though the bank is yet decide on whether it would include any country outside the five founder nations. However, finance ministry sources said the Economic Relations Division has sent a letter to Bangladesh ambassadors in the five countries to enquire whether the country can join the bank. Bangladesh has also communicated to Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Pankaj Saran its willingness to become a member of NDB
